Behind the Skyscrappers – Jakarta’s Skid Row

I had to rush to Pacific Place from my office in Setiabudi today. As the traffic during Ramadhan at this peak hour is crazy, I decided to take the “Ojek” (motorcycle taxi).

Knowing the jammed-packed Sudirman street, The Ojek did not take me to that route. Instead he took route through Jakarta’s skid rows, behind the tall skyscrappers.

But it was an interesting ride. You couldn’t help but wonder to find such less fortunate communities living together with the haves on the surrounding apartments and office complex. Their houses may be small and their streets may only allow a motorcycle to pass, but they live right in the center of city! Leave them out from the mess of bad-traffic commuting to workplace everyday.. 🙂
