It’s increasingly more and more that I hear about Jatim Park and Batu Secret Zoo. It’s quite uncommon though for Jakarta citizen to find a zoo or theme park that amuse them, given the wide range of amusement Jakarta offers, but that’s exactly what I hear from our friends who just came from this East Java hottest tourist attraction.
This week my family is going to East Java together with Elok’s family for “Napak Tilas” trip to Malang and Kertosono. Arrived in Malang this morning, we went straight to Batu area to visit Jatim Park 2. Alas, the traffic was so bad, it took us more than an hour to reach there.
The bad traffic actually gave us a clue for the things about to come: Jatim Park area was very crowded with visitors. But having came a long way here, the “oceans of people” did not deter us. We bought the bundled admission ticket to Animal Museum and Jatim Park 2 for IDR100,000 per person.
Nothing special about Animal Museum, but lots of dead animals being in diorama style. We spent half an hour here and went straight to Jatim Park 2 Zoo.
The zoo welcome us with its primate monkeys collection. Soon I realized, this park has something to offer. At least, it was built based on passion, not merely for dough. It has an almost single track that guide us through the entire zoo collection. And the collection is quite something. Already I found some rare and unique primates. The information panel board here is also quite informative, giving us enough facts and tidbits to keep us updated.
Too bad the zoo was very, very crowded. I can imagine it would be such relaxing time to spend hours with these animals. But not today, as flurry of visitors chugged you along the track.
But this crowded situation also gave me a good impression about this park. It was kept relatively clean, and judging from the toilets and prayer rooms, I think the cleaners did more than decent job here. A rare feat for theme park in Indonesia, let alone in East Java.
In overall the park is more than worthy the admission fees. It just has many things to offer: great animal showcase (the tigers area are quite special), various entertainments (it has theme park, boat ride and lots of photo spots), and good facilities to visitors (you can rent e-bike, a motorized tri-cycle if you find the track is too long for you to walk plus it has lots of food stall, and the prayer rooms are big and clean). I would recommend for you to visit this park when you visit Surabaya or Malang in East Java, especially if you’re traveling with children.
