Me in Bintan Triathlon

I just had the best triathlon event ever in Bintan Triathlon!

The organization is top notch. Managed by Trifactor, a renowned event organizer from Singapore, every part of the race was well taken care of.

The event was held in Lagoi Beach, a secluded upscale beach front in north of Bintan. It’s just 45 minutes boat ride from Singapore. Hence, no wonder most of the participants came from there.

But I guess that’s what make the event is well organized. Knowing the participants are coming from many parts of the world, the organizer make sure it’s an international standard event.

Great Organization

Starting from the swim route. It’s calm and shallow (too shallow for the first 60 meters, so we couldn’t swim). But it wiped away the anxiety of swimming in ocean. Very ideal for the first timer triathlete, which I saw many.

The swim leg was followed by a smooth bike track with lush greeneries. It’s not entirely flat. Rolling in most parts. There were only 3 climb segments which a bit steep near Ria Bintan, but not too hard. Most of the track are sterile. Or at least there were very minimal motor vehicles around, which made me really enjoyed the bike leg.

Finally, after a short transition in near Lagoi beach, the triathlon was completed with running around the beautiful running path in Lagoi lake.

All of these tracks were supported by great amenities: ample of water+refueling+medic stations (in run leg), passionate cheering squad, clear route signages, and swift race results and photos. The event look and feel as a truly international event. Kudos to the organizers!

My Race Performance

As for the race, I also feel this is my best triathlon performance ever. I feel strong throughout the race. I guess ramping up the training for the past two months does give positive effect.

It’s too bad my thighs and calf had cramps on running leg, made me unable to run in faster pace. Thank God for the organizers to equip the water stations with electrolytes and energy gel. Otherwise I might not be able to finish the race. The refueling kept me in the race.

And finally, although with cramps in four different parts of my legs, I completed the race strongly. Clocking 2 hours 34 minutes in total time. Which could have been 5 mins better if the cramps didn’t appear. But anyway, finished another Olympic Distance triathlon in such strong form – strong enough to allow me roaming Bintan area for the rest of the day with Elok – is the most important for me.

Thank you Bintan Triathlon see you next year? 💪☺️
