When we’re exploring the rejuvenated Old Town of Semarang, we found this place, set up in an old Dutch heritage building next to ‘Gereja Blenduk’. As coffee addict who always look for cozy coffee place during our holiday, we didn’t hesitate ourselves to enter the cafe, escaped from the hot and humid afternoon of Semarang.
Once we entered the building, a cool and fresh air condition waves greet us, which was great. Instantly we love the place. Cozy and not cramped. Tastefully decorated with the intention to preserve the original building look and style.
The building itself was built more than 120 years ago when Dutch still ruled the country. It was known as building of “Winkel Maatschappij H Spiegel” – a firm specializing trading office supplies by importing goods from Europe. After being abandoned for many years, somebody with great eye for business turned this place into Spiegel Bar & Bistro.
Given that we just had big breakfast, we just ordered coffee. Cappucinno for me and Elok, and cold drinks for Aya and Rafif. I’m happy to report that the coffee was good! It would’ve been a pity if a nice place like this could only serve bad coffee. But it wasn’t the case. The coffee was smooth and strong, served in perfect sized cup and in excellent temperature. Judging from this experience, I would recommend everybody coming to Semarang to visit this place. It’s just another pleasant coffee experience for us. Recommended.
I’ve been here last May this year. Its cozy place for having coffee and hangout.
Agreed. My fav cafe when in Semarang
