Although it’s a little bit late, but I think I need to continue my tradition of writing my Annual Sports Review for year 2024. I’ve been doing this since 2016, hence it would be a pity if I stopped the tradition.
So.. here we go…
Review of 2024
Let’s start by reviewing my Sports Resolution for 2024:
- Gain muscle mass so my weight can be > 65 kg
- Frankly, gaining weight is not really built in my body. Despite of me adding more proteins for my daily intake, my weight stays consistent around 63 kg. There were times where I reached 65 kg. But then it was back to 63 again in no time 🙂
- But to be fair, it could be worse. I suffered from Influenza-A virus during Ramadhan, which caused my weight loss down to 57 kg! Alhamdulillah, I could gain it back to the “normal” 63 kg.
- And I’m happily said that I’m pretty consistent for my gym session. Signed up for long-term membership for the gym at my office building and Personal Trainer did help. Visiting gym two times a week has been built to my weekly schedule this year. Although my muscle mass didn’t really significantly changed – but noticeably I feel better and fitter.
- As reported by Strava, the Strength Training I performed in gym is also becoming my most favorite sports activity. It bests “Running” which now come in second.
- Complete Olympic Distance Triathlon
- Finally I made it. Participated in Sportel Bali Triathlon in February 2024, I completed my first Olympic Distance Triathlon. I had the usual scare of swim leg, but in the end I finished strong. And I found it really rewarding, so much that I’m already thinking of doing another one this year. Full story here.
- Run Half Marathon below 2:15:00 time
- Not only I broke the barrier of running HM below my target time (2:15:00) – I actually smashed it. It happened in LPS Half Marathon event. I made my PB with calculated and planned pacing plan – which made it so satisfying as I made it better than I planned. Full story here.
- Play more consistent golf rounds, so I can regularly shot below 85
- Surprisingly, I played a lot more golf this year. Fueled with re-joining QGolf membership, I successfully enticed my usual golf buddies to do the same. As result, we’ve been playing more regularly now. We even had our long overdue Bali Golf Trip last year. And as I play more often, I can say I’m playing a more consistent golf these days. I posted more rounds below 85 as I also wrote in this post.
Not bad, eh? I almost made all of my Sports resolution of 2024.
So after that’s said and done, let’s see how Strava view my year…
Strava Annual Report

- 194 days active in 2024. It’s recoded 3% less than 2023. However, as it was reported in mid December, actually I was still clocking some activities in December. So I think it’s more or less the same as last year.
- Golf returns as #1 sports in terms of time spent. Weight Training came second, and Run came third. And because of golf, the Total Time spent in Sports in 2024 increased significantly. 327 hours, or 31% up from last year.
- Total distance was 1.508 km, and it was 2% up from 2023. Again, I’m sure golf played big part, as I easily walked >10km for every golf round I played. Running contributed 375 km, and Cycling was 522 km.
Golf Report

- In total, I played 29 rounds in 2024. This is significant increase from 10 golf rounds in 2023.
- My scoring average was 86 – better than last year whch was 89.1
- The best round was in Riverside, when I scored 80. I wrote a bit about my golf form following that round. As I’m writing now, I continue to post low 80s scores. And I’m hopeful for winning a tournament should I can keep this form. But you know, it’s golf.. anything can happen.
- Handicap in GolfShots down to 10.4, a full 1.5 index from 11.9 in 2023. Not bad.

New Sports Gears
- I bought my friend’s golf club this year. It’s his old club, Fourteen iron set. I initially bought this for my son, Rafif. However, he found it too heavy, and feel my Yamaha V-Forged clubs is better for him. As good Dad, then I gave him my clubs. And I refitted the Fourteen clubs with new shaft and grips. And boy, what a difference it made, as I’m now playing my best golf in years with this club. Long may it continue.

- I also bought a new racing shoe. It’s Saucony Endorphin Elite. Which I wore on LPS Half Marathon Race. When I broke my PBs. The shoes really helped me, as the soft cushion and light form enabled me to do an ideal running form.

- Oh, I also upgraded the wheelset of my steed. Has been eyeing Zipp wheels for quite some time, finally I decided to splurge. I sold my old Mavic wheelset, and add a bit more to get this Zipp 404 Firecrest. Now my road bike is lighter, and sleeker. Is it faster? Should be, but I need to improve my fitness back first. Haha.

Sports Resolution for 2025
Alright, now let’s go to the Sports Resolution for 2025. Nothing much changed, but let me start with golf:
- Break 80s again. It’s been sometime, and I’m close. Hopefully this year I’ll get a few. One would do. Or more. Then this will also mean to be back as single handicapper.
- Win a golf tournament. I will try to join Monthly Tournament held by Prasetiya Mulya Golf Club more regularly. As this is the only tournament opportunity I can join. They’re competitive, but in a good day, I believe I can nick a spot in the tournament winners. Let’s see.
As for the other sports, I won’t be too ambitious. As I’m getting older, being healthy is most important. I won’t risk myself to over train and get injured.
So here’s what I committed to do:
- Do another Triathlon race – Olympic or Sprint distance, it doesn’t matter. Hopefully it’s Olympic.
- Continue to be consistent in gym. Have just signed for an annual plant of Muscle Booster app, I’m currently trying to do the practice without Personal Trainer.
- On Running.. I was thinking of doing Full Marathon this year. But I’m currently injured my knee due to playing office football in rain (I know – silly old man). So I have to see how my knees healed first to see if I still can improve my PB in Half Marathon, let alone do the Full Marathon race.
- Cycling – I hope I can do another Fondo this year. And if possible, join a cycling event outside Jakarta (similar to GFNY). The Infestino in Jogja looks cool. Let’s see if I can join that one.
So there you go… the annual sports review and resolution for 2025. Hopefully this will be another healthy and happy year for me and my sports. Aamiin.
